Preparedness in the Nordic-Baltic region in terms of food security in potential crisis varies by country. Equal footing and standing as united for all countries and their citizens in terms of access to know-how, experience and guidance are fundamental values of the Nordic region with the Baltic countries as the closest allies. The matter of food security is no exception.
The range of potential threats in terms of food security is diverse, from climate change and extensive urbanization to conflicts, natural hazards, and political instability. Besides being associated with shock and stress, they hold a risk of disturbing our basic needs for a sustainable life and healthy nutrition. How prepared are we? What counts as well-prepared for unprecedented consequences? Where’s the line between individual responsibility and that of the state?
The heating events in the international arena bring the topic of food security and resilience on top of the agenda for policy makers on national and municipality level and for other professionals in the field of civil defense and resilience. And for a good reason – being prepared, taking the mater seriously and putting our heads together, sharing knowledge, can make us as prepared for the unknown turbulences as possible.
This hybrid webinar is an initial stage of a Nordic-Baltic approach on food systems security and individual resilience. It hosts speakers, researchers with extensive knowledge and valued insight on the matter. The webinar is intended as the launchpad for future discussions and joint regional initiatives on the topic.
It will cover three main angles:
- Planning and strategizing
- Land use and spatial planning
